Do you need a break from the hustle and bustle of city life? Do you think you would feel a little happier and more peaceful if you spent a day or two enjoying nature? If so, hop in your 2023 Toyota Tacoma and check out one of these four amazing state parks within driving distance of Hillsboro, OR.

4 Amazing State Parks in Driving Distance of Hillsboro, OR

1. Ainsworth State Park

One amazing state park within driving distance of Hillsboro is Ainsworth State Park. This state park is open for day use and camping from March 18 through October 31, and you can enjoy a wide variety of outdoor activities here. If you’re interested in camping, you should know that there are 46 reservable campsites and a camp area that is available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

2. Battle Ground Lake State Park

We also recommend exploring Battle Ground Lake State Park at 18002 NE 249th St. This 280-acre state park offers something for everyone, including a primitive equestrian camping area and horse trails. There are also 10 miles of hiking trails and five miles of mountain biking trails.

Our favorite feature of this park is Battle Ground Lake. There are 60 feet of dock that you can fish from, and swimming in the summer is invigorating. There is also a watercraft launch, and non-motorized boating is allowed on the lake.

3. Beachside State Recreation Site

Beachside State Recreation Site is also worth driving from Hillsboro to visit. This state park is open for day use and camping from March 15 to October 31. Here, you can wake up to the sound of the waves lapping against the beautiful, sandy beach shores. Camping options include:

  • 32 electrical sites
  • 42 tent sites
  • Two yurts
  • Hiker/biker camp

4. L.L. Stub Stewart State Park

Finally, we recommend driving to L.L. Stub Stewart State Park for a weekend of fun. This state park is open year-round for day use and camping. If you’re interested in a weekend getaway, you can enjoy camping in a hook-up site or pitch a tent in a non-hook-up site. However, we recommend reserving one of the quaint cabins with electricity and heat.

If you’re not interested in camping, there is still plenty you can enjoy in this state park. For instance, there are nearly 30 miles of hiking trails and some of the best mountain biking trails in the state.
